Change is Constant

We thought the snow would just keep coming and coming but as we look out our windows it's a beautiful Blue Bird Day. Staying within that color scheme, our Item of the Week is the recycler's favorite, Blue Bags! On sale from March 29, 2010 to April 4, 2010 at $4.30 per roll. Save $1.69 on all three sizes. Look for the bags between registers #2 and #3. Speaking of where the blue bags can be found, don't be surprised if the west side of the store looks a bit different in the coming days. The paint department will be moving north toward the famous orange doors, swapping places with the Housewares department. Employees are at the ready to help orient you toward your favorite products.

Hope you can get out there and enjoy the beauty of our beautiful region. A great way to enjoy the early spring is to head on down to the Truckee River where you can snowshoe, Nordic ski along the trail or try your luck at a little fishing. Below is the most current fishing report from our super fishing department.

WEEK OF 3/12/2010

SPECIAL REGULATION WATER OPEN-GENERAL REG SECTION CLOSED!

(DON’T FORGET TO PINCH THOSE BARBS, CATCH & RELEASE ONLY!)

JUST A REMINDER: On the issue of proper etiquette on our waterways-give space to others who may be fishing or utilizing a particular area that you may want to fish; try not to fish one particular spot for an extended period of time, let others have a chance to fish there to; finally, respect private property boundaries and their patrons that utilize it.

Truckee River: Trout Creek to Stateline barbless Flies and lures only-NO BAIT NO SCENTED LURES!

Flows: Truckee 48cfs, Boca 405cfs, Farad 432cfs

November 16th signifies that special reg water is open only and for catch and release only, so report anyone who may not be following these rules (Those fishing Prosser Creek, LT along 89, ect). Dress accordingly to stay warm and dry. This week will bring cold temps in the mornings but the early afternoon temps should be temperate. From 11:00am to 3:00pm is the best time to fish with good hatches of BWO’s and Midges. Don’t forget that March Brown Nymphs are getting active on the bottom and that fish will be looking for them. Fish seem to be grouped up, try working the deeper holes and cut banks. Using Midges and small mayfly patterns in dark colors will be the most productive patterns now either wet or dry depending on conditions. Other success can be had by using a Pat’s Rubberleg or a Micro Stonefly trailed by the aforementioned patterns. On slower stretches of the river now look for rising fish that are taking BWO or Baetis duns if you are looking for a break from nymphing. Flows are on the rise as we get warmer days and some rain to get things melting, this may cause some areas to get a bit off color. Snow is pretty much gone from Hirshdale on to the stateline..

This section or wild trout water is being poached on a regular basis. It’s up to you to protect it by calling
1-888-334-2258(DFG Caltip). Release All Walters(Big Trout)!

CATCH & RELEASE ONLY-GENERAL TROUT SEASON CLOSED!

Little Truckee River: Barbless Flies and lures only! NO BAIT!!! PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE OF OTHER ANGLERS AND THEIR SPACE! PLEASE DON’T FISH ONE SPOT FOR TO LONG!

Flow243CFS Special Regs. The road is partially open to Boyington Mills Campground but if the road closed sign is up DON’T go past it unless on foot. You will be ticketed. Flows on the increase should be making the fishing some of the best of the year, if you invest the effort to get there. Fishing any time of year on the LT is very technical, perfect drifts are a must and stepping down one leader/tippet size can make all the difference. Small midge patterns in dark colors and Baetis in both dries and wets are the norm now. Small winter stone emergers are working well for those finicky trout that refuse your BWO’s or Baetis patterns. Even patterns such as Princes, San Juans, and glo bugs can be deadly if the water goes offcolor. Stealth and patience is still required on this stretch so take your time and study the water before you fish it.
